A Great Weekend for a Writer

Last weekend was truly wonderful. I began Saturday morning by attending the 10th Annual Joplin Writers' Faire. I sold some books, connected with other authors, and had a great visit with a publisher about a variety of things including art.

I love the Joplin Writers' Faire. It's held at the Joplin Public Library every year. I make it a point to participate each year I'm in town the weekend of the event. Unfortunately, I have experienced scheduling conflicts in the past and have missed the faire a few times.

This year, I had the distinct pleasure of being set up in the gallery, which meant my booth rested amongst beautiful paintings. The library's support of local artists is one of my favorite things about visiting the space. The have showings of various artists and themes throughout the year.

The library staff treated us like royalty. We even had little gift bags this year. They had a granola bar, a water bottle, a mandarin orange, a small bag of white cheddar popcorn, a small bag of fruit snacks, and a sticker. It was a pleasant surprise.

One of my oldest friends, one from kindergarten, came to the event just to see me and buy my books. I was thrilled! We chatted for a quite a while, catching up. After all, kindergarten was a very long time ago for us. After she departed the faire, she posted the kindest words on social media about my books and me. Seeing her was a joy, but when I read her kind words, I was ecstatic.

I came home that day walking on cloud nine as my dad used to say. I was energized, inspired, and happy. Spending time with my people has that effect on me. I didn't think the day could get any better until it did.

My friend, Author Caroline Giamanco, sent me a message Saturday afternoon inviting me to be an Author Spotlight on her Substack called Twisted Reads. I am beyond excited to be interviewed on her Substack!

This isn't a fluff interview, either. There are a great many questions, many of them thought-provoking. It is going to take me a while to answer all of them due to the careful consideration required for a deep, truthful response. I owe Caroline nothing less for the honor.

The frosting on the cupcake of my amazing Saturday was when a good friend told me I looked stunning. I can't remember the last time someone used the word stunning to describe me. I guess red really is my best color. I'll make a point to wear it more often.

Sunday was spent catching up with this and that. Laundry, meal prep, writers' group responsibilities, and a nice long phone call with Mom were all accomplished.

If only the workweek will be as good as my weekend, I'll be a happy gal, indeed.

I hope you all have a fabulous week!
