October Book Signings -- Joplin Writers' Faire and Always Buying Books

October will be an extremely busy month. I have two writers' conferences, my wedding anniversary, and two book signings. On top of all that, I have a big work-related event coming up in October, as well. It's my favorite month, but it sure is busy this year.

My first book signing will be at The Joplin Writers' Faire on October 7, 2023. The Joplin Writers' Faire will be held at the Joplin Public Library from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The library is located at 1915 South Connecticut Avenue in Joplin, Missouri. There will be 48 amazing authors participating. It will be a fabulous event!

My second, and most important, book signing will be held at Always Buying Books on October 21, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Always Buying Books' address is 5357 North Main Street Road, Joplin, Missouri. The bookstore has a Joplin address, but it is actually in the Village of Airport Drive, which intersects with Joplin.

If you've never visited Always Buying Books and enjoy reading or working puzzles, I highly encourage you to check it out. They have a huge selection of used books, both hardcover and paperback, at great prices. Their kids' section is in a room of its own and quite extensive. A nice selection of puzzles was added a year or two ago, and I wish I had the time to work one because they look like fun. The bookstore even has fresh, local honey when it's season (now).

I will be attending the Ozark Creative Writers Conference (OCW) and the Ozarks Writers League Conference (OWL) in October. I'm looking forward to hearing the speakers and attending sessions. OCW has Jane Friedman this year! I entered writing contests for both conferences, and I'm excited to see if I placed in any of the competitions. I'm equally excited to see who placed in the contests my critique partner and I sponsored.

Speaking of the Ozarks Writers League, I accepted a new position with the group at our last board meeting. I'm now the newsletter editor. I've never edited a newsletter before, and I don't have an author newsletter yet, so this is going to be interesting. I may have bitten off more than I chew with this, but I'm going to give it my best try.

If you are a writer or are interested in writing, I encourage you to join a writers' group and/or attend a conference or two. I probably do too much, but I learn something new and helpful from each group meeting and at every conference. I belong to five writers' groups and attend three or four conferences a year. If I didn't have a full-time job, I would attend even more.

My 24th wedding anniversary is in the middle of the month. It sure doesn't seem like it's been that long, but I guess time flies when you're having fun. We don't have any big plans, which is my fault. My travel schedule this month is crazy. I imagine we'll have a nice dinner out and see a movie if we're feeling flush. Whatever we do, I know we'll have fun because we'll be together.

I tend to spread myself a bit thin this time of year, but I love what I do. Even though I'm running here, there, and yonder, it's worth all the madness.
