I met my new grandson today! With a head full of beautiful black hair and the sweetest little fingers and toes, he’s a bundle of joy. I was holding him when he woke up from his nap this afternoon, and he let me know with certainty that he was hungry and wanted his mommy.
Luca is a whopping two days old and already turning everyone around him into putty. He’s surrounded by loving family members. Even his big brother says having a brother is “good” and is starting to warm up to the baby.
I was worried about my older grandson’s adjustment from only child to big brother. I remember how difficult it was for me to make the transition over forty years ago.
I had no reason to worry. My step-daughter has things well in hand. She’s involving her older child in the routine care of Baby Luca. She has him watch her change the baby and is explaining every step from feeding to bathing. She’s a pretty smart cookie, and I should have known she’d do everything in her power to make sure both of her boys were happy.
I’m now Nana to three beautiful grandchildren, and I couldn’t be happier. Some people hit their best years in their twenties. For me, true happiness arrived in my forties with the birth of my grandbabies. They are truly gifts from God. I was born to be Nana.
