My Grandson is Already Four

I can’t believe my grandson is already four years old! Time is going way too fast. That little guy is the person who made me a nana and taught me what it is to have my heart filled with joy. I thought I knew love before, but there’s nothing like hearing, “I love you, Nana,” to give me true happiness.

While his birthday was last Wednesday, we celebrated on Saturday. We gathered at the home of someone who loves him and happens to have a pool. The kids were able to swim under the watchful eyes of our outdoor enthusiasts while the rest of the adults visited in the spacious kitchen and living space.

Rye’s party was dinosaur themed this year. My step-daughter didn’t share that information with my husband and me, but he liked our gifts anyway. As luck would have it, I had wrapped his Nerf guns, Thomas the Train book, and big rubber ball in a T-Rex bag, so I wasn’t completely out of vogue.

His main gift from us was an RC car. Not just any RC car, but a Black Dodge Charger RT with a Hemi. It was just like mine in his eyes. Well, it was just like mine if my car was a whole lot more awesome. Mine is an RT that still has factory everything. I don’t have the money or inclination to customize. No. The one we bought him was a replica of the car that Dom drove in Fast & Furious. So, now my grandson has the coolest Hemi ever.

The party was fun, and our hostess went all out. She had dinosaur footprints throughout the party room, homemade dinosaur eggs as the centerpiece, Jurassic Park signs posted here and there, crepe paper hung festively in the doorway between the sitting area and the kitchen, and a beautiful cake adorned with a T-Rex.

We had some great food, too. We had hot dogs, cheeseburgers, bacon-wrapped stuffed habaneros, all sorts of chips, deviled eggs made to look like dinosaur eggs, watermelon, and of course cake and ice cream. I’m sure I’m forgetting something, but everything I sampled was delicious.

My little sweetie was excited over each gift he opened. He received many wonderful things and had a truly special day surrounded by family and friends. My grandson is one loved little boy.
