Having a great husband is a blessing every day, but especially on days like this. I think I’m fighting off some sort of virus. I’ve had a headache for roughly a week, and I’m extremely fatigued. I am also a bit short tempered. Actually, my sunny disposition has gone MIA.
I came home from work yesterday feeling horrible and in extremely foul spirits. All I wanted to do was take some aspirin and crawl into bed. I dreaded making dinner and tending to all of the domestic tasks that we all must tackle daily.
I immediately noticed that my husband wasn’t home. It was his day off, so I asked my daughter-in-law his whereabouts. She told me that he’d gone to the store and would be back soon. I held off on starting supper because he occasionally buys a rotisserie chicken when he shops close to dinnertime.
He arrived home soon after I asked about him. He wrapped me in a wonderful long embrace, kissed the top of my head, and told me he was making hamburgers for dinner. Score! Not cooking made great strides toward improving my mood. But wait, it gets better. He washed the dishes and put them away afterward. He did the laundry, too. All I had to do last night was write this post and eat the meal he prepared. He even made an extra burger for me to take to work today.
I don’t always appreciate him, and he doesn’t always bear the majority of our domestic burden. My mother-in-law once told me that marriage isn’t a 50/50 partnership. She was right. The percentage changes with our needs. Sometimes I give 60% and he gives 40%. Other days, I take more and give less. Last night, I took a good 99%, and my husband offered his support to me with a loving smile.
Yes, my husband is a huge blessing to me. After 18 years of marriage, he knows when I need him the most and he’s always there.
