Let’s Find Some Common Ground

Something has been on my mind for a while now.

It’s becoming more and more difficult for me to find the joy in this world. Is anyone else feeling this way? I can’t even watch the news anymore. There is so much anger, despair, and strife that I worry for my fellow humans. To further complicate things, COVID-19 has spiked in my area in the past week.

I firmly believe that we should all be treated equally. I also believe that we should never destroy or steal someone else’s property. I learned about mob mentality in my high school English class when we read and discussed Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Otherwise reasonable people can be influenced to do unspeakable things when in large crowds. Frankly, it makes my social anxiety skyrocket. Anarchy is never good.

I’m grateful to live where I do. People in my area typically try to get along with each other and engage in respectful behavior. Most of us want to live our lives in peace and harmony. I don’t need to agree with everyone in order to get along with them.

We need to stop and think about our actions. What we do today can have dire repercussions for years to come. Pointing fingers accomplishes nothing, and I sure am seeing a lot of that. Remember history and learn from it.

We all share this planet. Let’s not destroy it with hate. Let’s find common ground and show some love to one another. Listen to birds, smell some flowers, drink a rich cup of coffee, and share some peace with a friend or neighbor.
