Holiday shopping is in full swing. I don’t know about you, but I always struggle to find gifts for a few of the people on my list. I think books make the best gifts ever, but not everyone agrees with me. I’ve asked some of my friends and coworkers for their holiday gift suggestions.
The men on my list usually offer the greatest challenge, so I’m starting with them. I received some great feedback, which helped me with my own shopping. The number one requested item from the men polled was sporting goods store gift cards. Cabelas, Academy, Bass Pro, and Dunhams all rated very high. Please keep in mind that most of the men with whom I associate are rugged outdoor enthusiasts.
Flashlights/work lights were also on the list, which made me feel better since I seem to buy at least one light every year. Other ideas included automobile Bluetooth transmitters, video game consoles, cell phones, tablets, televisions, hunting/fishing/camping supplies, grilling supplies, footwear, gloves, insulated mugs/travel mugs, merchandise from favorite college or professional sports teams, and hats. Of course, many men also mentioned various tools such as drills, impact wrenches, chain saws, and socket sets. Cases of beer and bottles of whiskey also made the list.
The women polled had some of the the same ideas along with a few more gifts aimed at comfort. Cell phones, tablets, laptops, handmade crafts, perfume, body lotion, essential oils, jewelry, beverage sets, quality chocolate, and gift cards were high on the wish list.
One of my friends is a gift card queen. She suggests gift cards for such things as massages, pedicures, movie passes, pet store goodies, nice restaurants, department stores, spas, salons, and coffee shops. She left off my favorite gift card, book stores.
Use caution when buying gift cards, though. I had one friend tell me that she hates receiving them. She feels like there was no thought put into her gift if it’s a gift card or money.
Cozy house shoes, fuzzy robes, and luxurious body wash are great, too. I love gift sets. This time of year you can buy nearly everything in a cute gift set. I received enough body wash sets last year that I just had to start buying more last month.
Just in time for the holidays, the Joplin Writers’ Guild’s anthology, Seasons of the Four States is now available. I have two short romances included in this amazing book. You can purchase this book on Amazon or directly from one of the authors like me.
Joplin Writers’ Guild will be holding a book signing at Always Buying Books in Joplin on December 21, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Guild will be selling signed copies of Seasons of the Four States.
Don’t let gift shopping cause you stress. Think of it as a treasure hunt. You are on an adventure to find the perfect gift. Good luck!
