I try to always stay positive in my blog posts. I don’t want to be one of those negative people who always spew discontent. However, sometimes there are days that just push me past the point of optimism. Today was one of those days. I hope by reading about my day, yours will seem better.
Have you ever noticed how bad luck runs in clusters? I usually get it in clusters of three. Today I fell and busted up my both of my knees and shins on a chat parking lot. My wrist isn’t so bad, but it still smarts a bit. The good news is that I didn’t rip my pants. I just bruised and bloodied my knees and shins. My left knee is a little swollen, but I will live.
Then I went to my monthly family dinner with my distant relatives. I had a pleasant visit with my relatives, and we planned a hayride for next month. Then I hit a deer on my way home from my aunt and uncle’s house. The doe wasn’t very big, but she sure cracked my bumper. I wasn’t going very fast, and I was watching for deer. I saw her and hit my brakes. The stupid deer ran right at me! I wouldn’t have hit her if she had stayed where she was standing. No such luck. I hit the brakes, and she ran at me head-on.
But wait, there’s more. I was transporting a crock pot half full of fresh green beans and new potatoes. The crock pot went flying and covered my floor board with savory vegetables and broth. My floor mat is in the washer right now. I don’t know if you can wash floor mats in the washing machine, but that is where mine is. I guess I will find out.
Now that two terrible things have happened in one day, I’m just waiting for the other shoe to fall. It may not, but the odds are that the universe isn’t finished with me yet. My mom warned me there would be days when I can’t seem to win. She was right about that and many other things. On the upside, I’m safely at home now.
We all have bad days. Some of us have worse days than others, but no one has sunshine and roses all the time. So, I will leave you today with a piece of wisdom from one of the greats.
“When ill luck begins, it does not come in sprinkles, but in showers.”
― Mark Twain, Pudd’nhead Wilson
