Counting my blessings is how I deal with sadness.

There’s so much sadness in the world today. So many people are suffering. My heart goes out to anyone who is in a bad place. I’m an empathetic person and often have the urge to cry for other people. I’ve become better at hiding my emotions, but those who know me well usually keep a tissue handy. I’ve learned to deal with sadness by counting my blessings.

I have a stellar sister who is always there when I need to talk or a shoulder to lean on. If someone has done me wrong, she will find a dozen reasons that I’m better off without that person. If I need help, she asks me where and when. I don’t know what I would do without my sissy.

I have the best friends in the world. They have supported me through my ups, downs, bad luck, bad choices, and great joys. They have helped me move in all weather; helped me pick up the pieces of my broken heart; helped me plan for the future; and they were there to help me celebrate the happiest day of my life.

I’m thankful for my home. It isn’t the greatest house, but it’s mine. The roof and walls are strong. They keep me safe and dry. My heat pump keeps me warm, and I enjoy healthy food and running water. There are many people in the world who don’t have a home, food, or water.

I’m not rich or famous. I don’t enjoy perfect health or a single perfect relationship. I’m not really anything special, but my life is pretty good. I am truly blessed in every way that matters.
