If you are a frequent Ozarks Maven reader, then you know I am not technologically savvy. I manage to do what needs to be done most of the time, but today I got in way over my head.
I'm implementing a new inventory system at work, which is frightening in and of itself. I finished what I needed to do in my old system this afternoon and began to laboriously follow the copious instructions I received from our new system's IT department. As I feared, it did not go well.
I struggled and agonized as long until I was at my wit's end. It was 5:15 p.m., and I was getting nowhere. I did the only logical thing. I sent a message to my IT pal who works for my company. I explained that I was lost and desperate and wondered if he was still at work. He was!
He didn't waste any time. Shawn was calling me on the phone and taking over my computer before I could bang my head against my desk one more time. He read my instructions and executed the procedure faster than I could follow the cursor.
Making me feel marginally better was the fact that he wasn't able to get it to work completely. Don't get me wrong, he got much further along than I did with my efforts. Shortly before 6:00 p.m., he sent an email to the new inventory system's IT department explaining our issues in computer guy speak and requested guideance.
I'm not always great at asking for help when I need it. If I hadn't reached out to Shawn this evening, I would still be at my office, working myself into one heck of a tizzy. Instead, I'm at home enjoying some homemade chili I cooked a while back and froze while I write this post.
