Memorial Day Weekend Family Time

I hope you all had a great Memorial Day Weekend. I did not make to any of the cemeteries due to the constant rain my area has endured over the course of the past few days. I will try to visit them next weekend.
My husband and I decided to concentrate on spending time with our family over the weekend. Friday, he spent some quality time with our older grandson. I saw our boy briefly, but I had to leave for a meeting shortly after he arrived. Before I left, our sweet boy had a suggestion for a new book he wants me write. He is on to something with one of his ideas, and I am going to try to write it for him.

Saturday, we went fishing with our granddaughter. It was her first fishing experience. I was thrilled to be there when she caught her very first fish. Due to the excessive amount of rain, our options were limited. Luckily, my hubby knew about a couple ponds in our local park. The grass was mowed, and mud was minimal. Of course, we did get a little muddy. You really can't avoid it if you're fishing properly.
The ponds were perfect for fishing as attested by the number of other folks out enjoying the simple act of dropping a line in the water. They were also very well stocked. I've never seen so many fish pulled out of one pond. I even caught two of them, myself. The turtle population was also quite strong. Those little cuties stole a lot of our bait.
Sunday, my hubby and I decided to stay home and spend time together. I did some gardening between rain showers while my hubby went for his power walk. He typically walks two to three miles per day and was quick to take advantage of his limited window of dry time. It was the perfect time to move my mint plant, which is being quite prolific as it's already doubled in size.
Today, Memorial Day, my hubby had to work. So, I decided to take a raised garden bed that I had ordered for my mom to her. She was excited to see it. The rain never stopped, so my brother-in-law and I put the garden bed together in Mom's living room. We took it outside and put it in place in the drizzle.
A few years ago, my cousin kindly built Mom a wooden garden box and placed it on a set of outdoor steps to make it easily reachable without bending. Over time, the wood rotted, and Mom needed another garden option for this year. I contemplated building her another box like my cousin created, but I decided a galvanized metal one would last longer.

I started shopping for raised beds and discovered one that was perfect for her online. It was delivered Friday, but the rain combined with my schedule made that a bad day to try to take it to her and put it together. It's just shy of three feet high, two feet wide, and a little over a foot deep.
I was gratified to see that Mom had already purchased plants for her garden and was ready to begin growing some delicious food. I must say that I had fun assembling the raised bed with my brother-in-law. We make a pretty good team.
