I have a loved one getting married this weekend. I’m excited about this wedding for many reasons. First, I’m ecstatic for the bride who has been with her groom for several years. Second, I’m going to see loved ones I haven’t seen in years. I’ve missed them. Third, I’m going to be part of a joyous occasion, and surrounding myself with happiness is one of my favorite things.
A wedding means shopping. Mom, my sister, and I decided to do our shopping together. We all piled into my sister’s SUV and spent the afternoon last Saturday doing just that. We visited several stores including one at the mall. We all avoid the mall, but I wanted to purchase a nice wedding gift that I thought I could find there. I was successful, and we all picked up a few other things while we were there.
The best part of the shopping trip was when Mom bought us ice cream. It took me back in time to when my sister and I were kids. We went shopping with Mom every weekend. It was mainly to the grocery store, but every once in a while we stopped for ice cream on the way home. Since we didn’t usually keep ice cream in the house, our occasional malt or cone was a rare treat, indeed.
We had a lot of fun, and Mom was able to find a snazzy new outfit for the wedding. I bought a dress jacket, but I still need what’s going to be worn with it. I have two days before the big event, so I’m not in panic mode yet. I have a few ensembles in my closet to try on. If nothing suits me, I’ll shop in earnest on Friday.
This wedding will require an extra article of clothing that I’ve never had to worry about before — face masks. I completely understand the reason, and I will happily comply. I have a few masks and don’t mind wearing them. This is the first sizable function I’ve attended since the pandemic began, so I haven’t needed a fancy mask until now. I ordered a couple from Amazon that should be here tomorrow. I hope one of them will work with whatever I decide to wear. If all else fails, I’ll wear my regular work mask. It’s a little worse for wear, but at least I know it’s comfortable.
No matter what I end up wearing or what my mask looks like, I know I’ll have a great time because I will be witnessing a lady I watched grow up pledge to love, honor, and cherish the man she loves. I’ll be surrounded by people who mean the world to me as we celebrate undying love. Nothing could make me happier.
What are your plans for the weekend?
