My friend, Larry Wood, will be having a book signing for his new release, Show-Me Atrocities, on June 30, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Always Buying Books. The bookstore is located at 5357 North Main Street, Joplin, Missouri.
Larry writes books, articles, short stories, and essays about the Ozarks. He writes about our history with special emphasis on our seedy past. He has published many books and articles about Missouri and the Ozarks, as well as a couple of novels. He is an inspiration to me as a writer.
This will be a great event to attend for a few reasons. First and foremost is the opportunity to meet Larry and purchase a signed copy of Show-Me Atrocities. I haven’t had a chance to read Show-Me Atrocities yet, but I plan to purchase a copy soon. I own many of his other books, and I’ve loved every one that I’ve read.
The second reason to attend Larry’s book signing is that the Joplin Writers’ Guild president, Summer Farnsworth, will be there to answer questions about the Guild and accept new membership. Anyone who pays his or her $10.00 membership dues and becomes a new member during Larry’s book signing will receive a $10.00 gift certificate for Always Buying Books courtesy of Bob Wolfe, the owner. So basically, if you join the Joplin Writers’ Guild during Larry’s book signing, Bob will give you $10.00 in books. You can’t lose with a deal like that! Thanks, Bob!
Another reason to attend Larry’s book signing is to visit the quaint locally owned book store. Always Buying Books has a fabulous selection of classics, Christian, fantasy, science fiction, horror, true crime, mystery, romance, history, and children’s books among others. They have a very nice local author section right at the front of the store, which I love. I never know what I’m going to find when I visit.
I went to Always Buying Books in search of a pregnancy book when my daughter-in-law was expecting and was amazed by their selection of prenatal books. The last time I was there, I bought eight books including an Edgar Allen Poe collection that was over 100 years old. There’s nothing I love more than old books. Always Buying Books also sells fresh local honey, which is another huge draw for me.
If you are planning to be in the Joplin area the afternoon of Saturday, June 30, 2018, you should stop by Larry’s book signing. Take a look at Larry’s books and then browse the store. You will be glad you did. Tell them Ozarks Maven sent you.
