Holiday Madness and Joy

Welcome to the holiday madness, my friends! I hope your Thanksgiving was great, and you were able to spend quality time with your loved ones.

My family opted to celebrate at a restaurant on Saturday due to some work schedules. Oh, I didn’t spend Thanksgiving Day alone. I went to Mom’s where my sister was waiting for me. We had planned to stop by and eat some pie my sister had baked, but Mom had other ideas.

She made us a lovely meal of turkey, stuffing, scalloped potatoes, cottage cheese, and hot rolls. We followed up with my sister’s pumpkin pie and blackberry cobbler Mom made. I’m afraid I didn’t take anything because to my knowledge we were only going to be eating my sister’s pumpkin pie.

Spending a few hours with my mom and sister was great. We visited about what’s currently going on in our lives and reminisced about yesteryear’s holidays when we gathered together with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. I miss those good old days.

Did you go Black Friday shopping? I went to three places – Always Buying Books where I scored a few gifts and some great books for myself, Dollar General for some supplies, and Walmart for the supplies Dollar General didn’t have. I bought a few gifts at the stores and then came home and powered up my computer for online deals.

I have a great start on gift shopping for my grandchildren and have marked two adults off my list. I have a couple things for my husband and some other loved ones. I know that Christmas is about more than gifts, but I love seeing the joy on the faces of the people I care about when they open a little something to which I gave a great deal of thought.

I also love Christmas decorations. Jim and I put our tree up last weekend. I could sit and watch the lights for hours if I had the time. They give me a sense of peace and bring back wonderful memories of my childhood. It’s the simple things that make the holiday season joyful.

No matter how you celebrate the holidays, and even you if you don’t, I wish you all the love of family and friends.
