I hope you all had a wonderful Mother’s Day!
Mine was fabulous. I had the good fortune to spend the entire weekend with my mom, sister, and husband. It’s been a while since we spent any length of time together, and we had a loads of fun.
I attended the Imposter Ball at Chateau Charmant last Saturday evening and had a marvelous time. Not everyone came in costumer, but most people did. The costumes were incredible. There was a bride, a pirate, Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, a witch, two cats, a Scooby Doo villain, Tinkerbelle, several Harry Potter characters, a cowboy, a few video game characters I’ve never heard of, and several others. Huckleberry Finn was even in attendance. I recognized him right away and had pleasant conversation with the young man. My husband was a Dark Lord of the Sith, and I was Queen Guinevere.
It wasn’t all costume gawking. I visited with friends, met new people, listened to some music, and sold some books. That was great, but the best part was seeing my uncle, aunt, cousin, and her husband. They are loved ones I haven’t seen in a few years. My mom, sister, and husband were there with me, and all together, we filled the little gallery where my book table was set up. We had an impromptu family reunion right there in the blue gallery.
I’ve missed my uncle, aunt, and cousins very much. I’m trying to remember the last time I saw them, and think it was at my cousin’s wedding. She was married in the spring of 2021, so it’s been a long time since I’ve seen them. I really enjoyed our brief visit, and I hope we can get together again soon. I was sad my other cousins couldn’t make it, but I completely understand.
After the ball, Mom, my sister, hubby, and I stayed at a Springfield hotel and visited Wonders of Wildlife at Bass Pro Shops in Springfield on Sunday. That was interesting and educational. The aquarium part was what Mom really wanted to see, and they boasted several species of marine life. I must say I loved the jellyfish room the best. I sat down on a bench and simply watched the graceful movements of a handful of different jellyfish species.
My favorite animal, however, was the octopus. I’ve never seen a large octopus up close. I was mesmerized. It’s grace and beauty were second to none. I even took a video of it. I also have a soft spot in my heart for poison dart frogs. I couldn’t get any of them to look at me, but I still enjoyed seeing them.
The museum and aquarium are huge, and we were exhausted by the time we saw everything. We ate a quick lunch at Bass Pro and then made the harrowing trip home in a severe thunderstorm. The weather in Springfield was fine when we left. It didn’t stay that way for long. The important thing is that we all made it home safe and sound after a fun weekend.
Mom, I know you’re reading this, so I want to say it again: Happy Mother’s Day. I love you! Thanks for spending last weekend with me.
