Coming Home After a Long Day of Travel

I’m finally home from my business trip to Little Rock. It was an educational trip, but I was able to see a few sights, too. In addition to touring the Clinton Presidential Library, I visited the Discovery Museum and the Old Statehouse Museum. I walked around and enjoyed several of the sculptures gracing the the area. I drove around town for a little while after filling the company car’s gas tank last night.

I saw many historical artifacts and some beautiful art. The city has tons of things to see and do, but nothing feels quite as good as coming home. It took me around four and a half hours to drive to my office from Little Rock today. By the time I transferred my belongings from the company car to mine, it was already 6:00 p.m.

I dragged myself to my front door clutching my bag of fast food around 6:30 p.m. I let my dog outside to take care of his business and then started the thousand little things I needed to accomplish tonight before I collapse into bed.

Unpacking is my least favorite thing to do. The inconvenience of being forced to use valet parking at the hotel meant I had to wait for an attendant to bring the car every time I wanted access to it. I couldn’t take my time in loading it with multiple trips, so I needed to downsize. I didn’t want to call another bellhop. My solution to the need for fewer bags was to stuff as much as possible into my suitcases and backpack. That meant mixing clean clothes with dirty ones.

I have another conference tomorrow, so I need to get at least part of the laundry done. I also need to find all of those little things like my brush and toothpaste before I call it a night.

For those of you keeping count, this is my third conference in a one week period. The first one was the 2019 Ozarks Writers League Fall Conference. The second was the National Association of State Community Services Programs. My final conference of the week is Romancing the Station.

Romancing the Station is a romance authors’ conference being held September 28, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Library Station in Springfield, MO. This conference features my romance writers group, Ozarks Romance Authors. I’m looking forward to attending the conference. I’m posting a link here in case you’d like to read more about it. https://thelibrary.org/programs/program.cfm?id=442382636515&lc=k

Right now, I’m happy to be home. My dog is snuggling with me while I write this, which makes me feel warm and fuzzy. My second load of laundry is in the dryer, and I’m about half unpacked. I’ve located the essentials. Sleeping in my own bed will be amazing tonight.

I enjoy travelling, but nothing beats the feeling of coming home.
