Today I’m happy to bring you an Ozarks Maven Book Look at A Rare Connection by S.V. Farnsworth. This is a book that I was asked to critique several years ago. Even though a long time has passed, the story has stayed with me. That’s why I was so excited when Summer told me she was planning to release the novel.
This is a sweet romantic suspense that is unique in many ways, one of which is the light it shines on the faith, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The religion is a huge part of the leading man’s life and is explored beautifully throughout the book without being preachy.
The A Rare Connection Release Party is being hosted by Always Buying Books, Joplin’s best used book store, on Saturday, February 8, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. If you’re in the area, I know Summer would love to see you. Always Buying books is located at 5357 N. Main St., Joplin, MO.
Without further ado, please enjoy this Book Look at A Rare Connection!

1. For those readers who aren’t familiar with you, would you please tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Summer Farnsworth. I go by S.V. Farnsworth because it’s shorter and the search results are better. I’m married with 5 children ages 3-17. I’ve lived in South Korea as a Missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, so I’m part Korean at heart, though mostly Midwestern USA to the core. I was born in Monticello, Utah which by happenstance is close to Moab, where much of A Rare Connection takes place. I write about #MeToo concerns because those issues are a part of my family history, though I don’t share those stories.
2. We understand you have a new book launching. Would you tell us a little about it?
A Rare Connection is clean romantic suspense with international bookends. The main setting is in the Moab, Utah area. You will fall in love with Nicole and Andrew as they adventure in the landscape of the west. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if you plan your next vacation in southeast Utah because there are so many unforgettable scenes in the book.
3. What inspired you to write this book?
The setting is always a trigger for my creativity. My husband, Reuben’s family is from Moab, Utah and a few years back, we moved there. I was stunned by the vastness of the wide-open spaces. I’ve always loved red sandstone rock formations, so I was in heaven. It was Oowah Lake in the Manti-La Sal mountains that really got me, though.
4. Does your book have a lesson?
Yes. Deeply embedded in the storyline of A Rare Connection is the concept that all that we have to offer should be enough. It is…until it isn’t.
5. What is your favorite part of the book?
I love the part where Nicole and Andrew meet again after years of living worlds apart. I get a kick out of Nicole’s grandmother setting them up in such a way that they can’t escape the connection or avoid falling in love again.
6. Are your characters based on real people, or did you create them all?
The characters are completely made up, though they have attributes we can all relate to.
7. Is this new book part of a series or a standalone novel?
A Rare Connection is written to stand alone. I’ve learned to never say never, however. There’s plenty more story after the honeymoon is over.
8. Are you working on another book?
I’m working on the sequel to Woman of the Stone. Book two in the Modutan Empire series is titled, Monarch in the Flames. The series is epic fantasy and book 2 comes out on October 10th, 2020.
9. What would you like to say to your readers?
I want readers to connect with others in deeper and more meaningful ways. Healing is possible through the atonement of Jesus Christ. Love is eternal.
10. Where can we buy your books?
